High heels can be pretty expensive – but that’s not the only cost that factors in when you purchase them. When buying new stilettos, you should consider the pain and potential risks for your feet that will occur over time. This doesn’t mean that you can’t wear your sexy shoes, though, you be sure you know how to walk in them before you step out of the house to show them off. Just follow these guidelines to make sure you aren’t in pain by the end of the day.
How to Avoid Pain When Wearing High Heels
- Do some research to understand the anatomy of your foot and just how your heels can hurt you. This way you know what you’re risking before you step into your shoes.
- Measure the size of your feet – a half size too large or small can cause a lot of damage.
- Opt for heels that are an appropriate height. This will depend on the style of the shoe, the shape of your foot and your own height. Basically, stay away from heels that are so high that they are uncomfortable to wear.
- Pay attention to the width of the heel when trying on high heels. Shoes that are wide enough to support you will be way less painful than those that aren’t.
- Switch up your shoes. Wearing different heels throughout the week is much healthier than sticking with the same pair constantly.
- Wear socks or stockings each time you wear high heels. Doing so is really going to help with any pain you feel.
- Add insoles or gel inserts to all of your pairs of heels to reduce the pain of walking around all day in your high heels. Try out different inserts to find ones you’re most comfortable in.
- Stand up straight when wearing heels. It may seem too simple to help, but it will significantly reduce your chance of foot pain.
- Listen to your body – if you’re hurting, your body will let you know, so don’t ignore it. Your comfort comes first!
