If you have athlete’s foot then you may be wondering about how you can go about trying to treat the condition at home before seeing a doctor or at least how you can get relief during the time you are waiting for a visit. The good news is that you have a few options that you can choose from in terms of being able to treat your athlete’s foot. Below are some of the options that you might want to consider.
Over The Counter Medication
There are many over the counter medications that you can use. Many of the treatments over the counter are sprays that you spray on the affected area of the foot however you may find some creams and foot powders that work as well. These are great methods for relieving some of the symptoms of athlete’s foot but they may not be enough to clear up the condition completely. They may also come with some side effects so if you notice anything that is out of the ordinary after using the over the counter medications make sure that you consult your podiatrist right away.
Natural Treatments
Many people prefer to use natural methods to help relieve the itching and burning that they feel with athlete’s foot. This is due to the fact that there are no side effects involved, like there are with some other treatment methods.
One of the options that you have is to use organic Neem oil. This oil is all natural and is toxic to organisms that are harmful. You want to apply this to your feet when they are clean and dry using a cotton ball before starting your day.
Another option is to use ginger that is organic. You need one ounce that is chopped and fresh. You then add this to one cup of water that is boiling and simmer it for about twenty minutes. When it is cooled off, you can apply it to your clean feet two times a day. This is an anti-fungal that is strong and your feet will also get a smell that is pleasantly spicy.
You can also use baking soda or corn starch. To use this you should sprinkle it on your feet before you put on your socks each morning. This will help to soak up some of the moisture but it will not help you when it comes to the itch. If you place baking soda in your shoes it can also help to combat some of the smell of smelly feet.
If you try over the counter medications and natural remedies and don’t see an improvement you will need to make a visit to Dr. Goldbaum. You don’t want to let the athlete’s foot spread to the point that it covers your foot so the important thing to remember is to get the problem under control before it becomes extremely painful and becomes a bigger issue than it has to be.
**Disclaimer: These are only suggestions. If you experience pain and discomfort, you should see a doctor right away.**
