How to Relieve Arch Pain

Typically you develop arch pain from walking, running or participating in sports activities on a regular basis. Yes, it’s painful, but in order to help with your pain and get on the road to recovery, you should follow these guidelines.

How to Relieve Arch Pain

  1. Stop whatever activity you’re participating in if you’re experiencing arch pain. Place a cold compress on the arch of your foot at least three times a day for 30 minutes at a time. To prevent swelling, take an anti-inflammatory medicine and be sure to rest your foot until it starts to feel better.
  2. When shopping for shoes, look for a pair that is made specifically for the sport you participate in. Running and walking shoes are designed to absorb more shock than regular shoes and have arch support that helps keep strain off of the arches of your feet.
  3. Invest in some cushioned inserts for your shoes. Inserts can absorb ground shock and give you a little more support for your arches.
  4. Learn how to walk correctly. You may not realize it, but many people place too much weight on the arches of their feet. Redistributing your weight will relieve some of the burden on your feet.
  5. If you’re over weight, you’ll need to drop a few pounds. By doing so you will reduce the amount of weight on your feet, which will in turn reduce your arch pain.
