Natural Treatment for Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

The tarsal tunnel is on the inside of the foot just below ankle bone. It contains a bundle of fibers that are made up of arteries, tendons and nerves. When this area suffers from any sort of compression, it can cause problems in the tibial nerve, which results in sensations along the inside and bottom of the foot, such as numbness, tingling, burning and pain. This condition is called tarsal tunnel syndrome, but it can be treated with natural care.

Natural Treatment for Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

If you suffer from tarsal tunnel syndrome, you can usually find relief by putting self-care measures into place. As soon as you start to feel any of the previously mentioned sensations, ice the area just below your ankle. Do this for 20 minutes at a time several times during the day to reduce inflammation of the tarsal tunnel and, therefore, reducing pain.

After icing your foot, wrap your ankle and arch of your foot with an elastic bandage to the area from too much movement. Apply the bandage firmly, but not so tight that you’re restricting circulation of blood. An elastic bandage will keep you from moving your ankle, which will lessen the possibility of further injury. You may even consider using an ankle brace to immobilize the area, especially when the pain is worse or the condition has become recurrent.

Once immobilized, elevate and rest the foot that’s affected. Both of these steps can help lessen inflammation and pain while also promoting healing. While resting, you do want to make sure you keep up with some light activity so that you maintain your strength.
