6 Steps to the Perfect At-Home Pedicure

Not everyone can afford going out and getting pampered by strangers at a nail salon. If you’re on a bit of a budget, you should try pampering yourself at home. Here’s how to give yourself an at-home pedi.

6 Steps to the Perfect At-Home Pedicure

1. Take a milk bath.
Sounds kind of weird, right? Well, the lactic acid in the milk will help smooth foot calluses, so go ahead and fill a large bowl or tub with equal parts milk and warm water, add some lavender oil, and soak your feet for five to ten minutes.

2. Care for your cuticles. Rub a little bit of cuticle oil into each toenail and push back any thickened skin. Use an emery board to file your nails straight across to keep from getting ingrown toenails, then slightly round the edges.

3. Soften up those rough feet. Exfoliate both feet in clean water with a coarse foot scrub and rinse them clean. Use a pumice stone to remove calluses on your heels, the balls of your feet, and your toes.

4. Moisturize. Rinse off the scrub and rub moisturizer on your feet and lower legs. Let the ingredients sink in for  a few minutes and then rinse your feet and legs.

5. Prepare your nails. Pat your feet dry and then rub in your favorite foot cream. Wipe the lotion off of your nails with a nonacetone polish remover pad before putting on some foam toe separators. Brush a clear basecoat onto your nails.

6. Start painting! Go ahead and slap on the first coat of nail polish. After about two minutes, paint on a second coat, and follow up with a clear topcoat after another two minutes to make sure the paint lasts longer. Let your toes dry for at least an hour and then gawk at how beautiful your feet look!

Professional treatment to relieve the pain is available from doctors such as Delray Beach’s Dr. Ian Goldbaum of Delray Beach Podiatry, who has provided us with this blog. If the pain continues, a podiatrist with Dr. Goldbaum’s experience should be consulted. You must get proper treatment to prevent permanent damage.
