Preventing Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, a germ that spreads through direct contact. Usually entering the skin through open cuts on the bottom of the feet, it is also possible to contract by touching an infected wart on another person.

A rough, thick growth of skin on the bottom of your foot, plantar warts are both uncomfortable and unattractive. They may come as a single wart or a cluster of growths. Usually forming on pressure points, you may find them on the heels or balls of your feet. Gray, brown, or flesh-colored, plantar warts are easily recognizable by a podiatrist.

Prevention

Careful sanitary measures aid in the prevention and reoccurrence of warts. Washing and drying your entire foot after showers is a simple way to keep warts away. In addition, you should powder your entire foot, including between your toes to prevent the absorbing of sweat. Change your socks and allow damp shoes to dry completely before wearing them. Preventing plantar warts in the first place will save you the aches, pains, and embarrassment.

Wear shoes in public places. Restrooms, locker rooms, shower stalls, and swimming pools are all high-risk carriers for germs that cause warts. Sandals or showers shoes will protect you from coming in contact with infected areas. If someone in your home has warts, they should wear protective footwear while walking around indoors to prevent spreading the virus to family members.

Avoid coming in contact with warts. Refrain from scratching or picking at your wart and never touch anyone else’s. Nail files, socks, and pumice stones are all carrying items that should not be shared. Cleaning with hot soapy water and other disinfectants can reduce your vulnerability to contracting plantar’s warts.

Treatment

Some warts will resolve themselves on their own without needing medical attention. More persistent cases cause take up to two years to shrink. While the wart is present, so is the chance of it spreading to other areas of the body. Ensuring to thoroughly wash your hands before and after touching your wart is the easiest method to protect yourself and others.  Cluster formations are more difficult to treat than single warts. To guarantee your health and safety, a licensed physician should examine the wart to determine the severity of your situation. Plantar warts are more likely to require medical attention.

Your podiatrist may prescribe a session of cryotherapy to remove the wart. This is a process in which liquid nitrogen is applied on the wart to freeze it, awarding your immune system the opportunity to combat the virus and diminish the wart.

Salycilic acid is another alternative method used in treating plantar’s warts. A 40 percent solution is applied to the wart, speeding up the body’s recovery.

In more extreme cases, Plantar warts may need to be surgically removed. Stubborn warts that are deeply rooted or excessively painful could require laser removal.

Dealing with the pesky pop ups isn’t always convenient. Taking care of your body from head to toe should be a priority well before a problem arises.
