Podiatry Laser Treatment

Laser treatments are becoming more and more relevant throughout the world.  Lasers can be used to treat a great number of various medical conditions.  Some of those conditions are related to podiatry.

What is podiatry?

Podiatry is the specialization of medicine that deals with the lower leg, ankle and foot.  Before laser treatments were available there were a great many more invasive treatments performed that may or may not have helped with the problem.  Now that laser treatments are being used, some of the more invasive treatments are being phased out in favor of the laser treatments that are less invasive and more helpful to the patient.

What do lasers have to do with it?

There are a great many podiatry related issues that can be treated by lasers.  Including ankle injuries, bunions, athlete’s foot, calluses, diabetic foot, corns, flat feet, hammer toes, toenail fungus, heel spurs, injuries, ingrown toenails, neuromas, warts, poor circulation and even more.

Laser treatments are most often used on things like warts, toenail fungus and ingrown toenails.  By using laser treatments on these conditions, the issue is either cut out or the tissue is vaporized by the laser thereby relieving the patient of the problem with minimal blood loss.

Lasers today are much better than they used to be. In the early days of laser treatment the lasers were much more aggressive which led to a higher recovery time due to more tissue being damaged.

Whatever your condition may be, have a long conversation with your doctor about your options.  If laser treatment is mentioned then ask them to explain in detail what the procedure involves as well as the risks and recovery times.  You may find that this will be the better way to go.
