For those of you who like to run, the running shoe is the main tool of your trade. When making your choice of shoes, take these three things into consideration:
- What type of running do you do? If you run on a treadmill or even on pavement then a regular training shoe will work well for you. If you are a competitive runner who is in it for the speed then you may want to look at a lighter racing shoe. On the other hand, if you like to run cross country or on trails then you might look at some trail running shoes.
- What type of foot do you have? To find out you will need water and a piece of paper. Wet the bottom of your foot and step on the paper. Lift your foot and look at your footprint. If it is flat and broad then you have a flat foot and would benefit from motion control running shoes. A small and thin print will indicate high arches and you would benefit from soft cushioning shoes. Those in the middle will do well with stability shoes. If you are not sure which ones are which ask a shoe salesman.
- Whenever you are looking for running shoes, go late in the afternoon or after a run. Take socks with you that you would normally use in running. Put the socks on and try on the shoes. They are the proper size if you can push down on the toe of the shoe and your thumb fits between your toe and the end of the shoe.
