Your feet are probably the most abused part of your body, but they are doing their best to hold you up throughout your busy day. So, do yourself a favor and show your feet the care they need to keep holding your weight when you need them. Let’s take a look at some basic foot care.
Foot Care: Simple Ways to Care for Your Feet
Make sure to wash your feet daily. Your feet have been exposed to a lot of dirt and bacteria by the end of your day, so you need to make sure you always wash your feet when you shower. Lather up with soap, and make sure to clean the spaces in between the toes. Afterwards, dry your feet gently with a towel. It’s not a hard task, but it’s very important.
Give your feet a pedicure every two weeks. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to paint your toenails, but you need to keep your feet soft and moisturized and your toenail clean and neat. You don’t even have to go out to a salon and have a pedicure professionally done; it’s just as easy and much cheaper to do it yourself in the comfort of your own home.
If you really want to, apply polish to your toenails. Do this after your pedicure, so that you have a smooth, clean base for the polish.
- Before painting, clean your nails off with nail polish remover to remove excess oils as well as old polish from the nails.
- Put toe separators between your toes to make the process of painting easier, and prevent a freshly painted toenail from getting paint on another toe.
- Always use a basecoat to prevent staining and to ensure your polish goes on smoothly.
- Apply the polish to your toenails. Allow it to dry, and then apply a second coat.
- After 10 minutes, use a topcoat so that your nails are super smooth and shiny and that the color will last a while.
Moisturize your feet everyday. Use foot cream or lotion regularly. A good idea is to apply petroleum jelly or lotion onto your feet before bed and then slip on socks over them. When you wake up, your feet will be nice and moisturized. However, be careful not to have excess lotion between your toes – too much moisture there could lead to a fungus.
