It doesn’t matter how well designed your shoes are – if they don’t fit you just right, then they aren’t doing their job. To make sure you won’t run into any foot problems or foot pain, make sure your shoes fit you properly.
Since we don’t have shoe fairies hooking us up with the perfect show for our sore, overworked feet… we have to take care of that ourselves. And since we may not all have a podiatrist on speed dial – Here are a few guidelines to go by when you are asking:
Does the Shoe Fit?
- Think you wear a size 9 shoe? Don’t just assume that, have your feet measured to make sure.
- As we’ve said many times before, shop after you work out or at the end of the day when your feet are their largest.
- When trying on shoes, wear the socks that you typically wear when playing your sport.
- Fit the shoe to the bigger foot.
- Check for wiggle room, your feet need some room to breathe!
If you have bunions or hammertoes, find a wider shoe. Ladies, if you can’t find a wide enough shoe, consider buying men’s athletic shoes. No one will know the difference!
Getting Professional Treatment
It is always our express intent to recommend that you take no chances with foot pain, ankle or knee pain, or injuries. Professional treatment to relieve the pain is available from doctors such as Delray Beach’s Dr. Ian Goldbaum of Delray Beach Podiatry, who has provided us with this blog. If the pain continues, a podiatrist with Dr. Goldbaum’s experience should be consulted. You must get proper treatment to prevent permanent damage. Also consider having a walk analysis done.
