Many men & women find scheduling a pedicure to be a relaxing treat for their feet. However, it is definitely more appealing when you can be confident you are getting a sanitary pedicure and not putting yourself at risk for illness or infection.
People who have never gotten a pedicure tend to wonder, are pedicures safe? The answer is yes, they are perfectly safe if the business you patronize follows the appropriate safety and sanitation procedures.
Safety Measures for Pedicures:
When you go to get a pedicure, be sure that the business you patronize follows the following safety measures for all pedicures:
- They check the client’s feet for any open wounds and do not cater to anyone with this issue
- All pedicures or waxing is done after the feet are immersed in a foot spa, not before.
- Sanitation processes should be completed after each customer, following all specifications for cleaning (including leaving the cleanser on the surfaces for the allotted amount of time).
Sanitation Measures for Pedicures:
- Sanitation for foot spas should be done between each customer and also each night.
- The cleaning solution should work for an average of 10 minutes, more if the label advises a longer time span to fully accomplish the cleansing.
- The cleansers used to sanitize the foot spa should be cleared for hospital use. This is the best grade to ensure the spa is fully sanitized.
- After each client, the spa should be emptied and cleansers applied to surfaces for 10 minutes. Debris should be cleaned out of the spa prior to applying cleansers. After cleansers have been used, the spa should be rinsed with clean water.
- At night, filter screens should be cleaned and a brush should be used to scrub these areas free of debris. The cleansers should be applied to surfaces as well, then the spa should be rinsed and air dried.
Men & women alike find pedicures relaxing and a fun way to get alone time. However, knowing the business they patronize understands the importance of cleaning the foot spas and protecting clients from infections is important to be able to fully enjoy the experience.
