Healthy Looking Feet in 6 Steps – Foot Care

We talk a lot about injury or pain, but what if you just want to maintain “pretty” or “healthy looking” feet? Just because your feet are all the way down there doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the same treatment as your hands. Neglecting your feet can lead to nasty, yellow, chipped, and thick toenails, dry and peeling skin, and basically just horrid looking feet. Here are some basic foot care to-dos.

  1. Wash your feet! Smelly, dirty feet is a huge turn off. Get a foot file and get rid of those rough areas on your feet, then wash them with some soap and water. Scrub you’re the top of your toenails and underneath them with a toothbrush – take your time to make sure you’re being thorough. (this also helps prevent fungus nails)
  2. Dry your feet. Don’t rub – pat them gently and make sure they stay a little moist to keep them from chipping and peeling again.
  3. Massage your feet. You don’t need any expensive lotions or anything, just use olive oil or yogurt…be creative. Massage your feet slowly and avoid moisturizing between your toes.
  4. Rub on some foot lotion. Or face cream if you really want to. Rub the lotion into the back of your foot, the heels and the ankles.
  5. Trim those toenails! Clean underneath them and make sure you don’t cut them so short that it hurts.
  6. Slap on some nail polish. This will just top off the healthy look of your feet. However, if your nails are a little yellow then try to stay away from any strong nail polish.

It is always our express intent to recommend that you take no chances with foot pain, ankle or knee pain, or injuries. Professional treatment to relieve the pain is available from doctors such as Delray Beach’s Dr. Ian Goldbaum of Delray Beach Podiatry, who has provided us with this blog. If the pain continues, a podiatrist with Dr. Goldbaum’s experience should be consulted. You must get proper treatment to prevent permanent damage.
